We're home!  Still getting used to America and all it's excess comforts. It feels good.  These are some things I like about America:

  • Drinkable water that freely flows from every faucet and makes great ice cubes!
  • Intense water pressure that provides exhilarating showers.
  • Fresh, perky vegetables  that do not need to be rinsed and soaked in SIN BAC.
  • Toms

  • Fluffy towels that have been washed in clean, scalding hot water and dried until they are toasty hot.
  • Well built houses that are insulated to prevent rain and bug entry.
  • FDA inspected meat!94358149_13a46a3416_m

  • Local health departments that regularly inspect restaurants and ticket major health risks.
  • A welfare system that takes 40% of all income and re-distributes it to recipients via US Mail as opposed to minute by minute personal transactions.
  • Posted store hours.
  • Soap in all bathrooms.
  • Completed construction – no rebar sticking out of the tops of EVERY building.Constructiononbarranca

  • Liars who claim to be hair artists that can transform you, as opposed to mere hair hackers.
  • Gigantic glasses of endless iced tea.
  • Pasteurized milk.
  • Thick toilet paper.
  • Attentive waiters who snap-to and bring the check.
  • Fat-free cream and ice cream.
  • Full-width sidewalks free of giant dog turds.274532415_0b64903f83

  • High ceilings.
  • Lighting fast Internet connection.
  • Air conditioning.
  • Medical doctors who read medical journals and not Cosmopolitan.

So glad to have you back on US soil!! Love your list - esp. the poo. That's hot.

Wow...I'm never going to mexico.

So true!!

I especially appreciate: A welfare system that takes 40% of all income and re-distributes it to recipients via US Mail as opposed to minute by minute personal transactions.

We love going to Mexico, but I'm always sad and infuriated to see up close how Mexico DOES NOT take care of its citizens, and allows children to live dangerous and degrading lives.

Was there NOTHING you appreciated about this country - read your comments to a group of Mexican and foreign ladies this morning - their response, oh well, another "feo gringa" read, ugly American. Adios.

Wow, Penelope is very angry with you! Amazing.

Psssst. hey, penelope! I think she's being a little sarcastic.

On second thought, maybe not.

I was in Mexico when I was fifteen (half my friggin' life ago, now) and I remember, even as a self-involved adolescent, being insanely shocked by the night-and-day life there: the relative wealth of the visitors and the poverty of the residents. We were in Cancun, which explains A LOT, but still, the grandiosity on one side of the street, and the desperate want on the other. Still sticks with me. Glad you're back, and I totally appreciate the first bullet, especially after nearly dying poolside after ingesting a hamburger and coke with ice.

Welcome home! Loved the "perky vegetables" comment!
